Egg Flies

Egg flies are some of the most effective patterns on specific river systems for a biologically sound reason: fish eat eggs, and in high concentrations. During and after salmon and trout spawning activity — October through early winter on most Western tailwaters and river systems with resident spawning populations — egg patterns under an indicator or tight-lined are frequently the highest-percentage presentation available.

Non-migratory trout will key on natural eggs drifting through a run with remarkable selectivity in size and color. Matching the diameter and tone of the dominant egg in the drift matters more than most anglers realize.

We carry a focused selection of Glo-Bug, sucker spawn, and bead-head egg patterns in the colors and sizes that produce results: pinks, oranges, chartreuse, and natural tones in sizes 8 through 16. Basic, proven patterns tied on quality hooks.
