Color & style options: The Copper John is available in several body colors — Natural/Copper, Red, Green, Chartreuse, Black — plus barbless versions of most. All share the same slim, heavy wire-wrapped body and tungsten or brass bead that gives the Copper John its hallmark fast sink rate. Color choice is mostly about trigger preference: Natural Copper is the original and still the most versatile match for a range of mayfly nymphs, Red and Hot Orange trigger fish in stained water or tailwaters, Green and Chartreuse add hot-spot appeal for euro-nymphing rigs, and Black works well in low-light or very clear conditions where subtlety helps. Barbless versions are otherwise identical — choose them for waters with barbless regulations or for easier catch-and-release.
